What We Do
We help ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of opportunity by:
Covering registration fees so kids can get on the field.
Assisting with equipment needs so families aren’t forced to choose between essentials.
Helping with tournament fees when athletes earn opportunities to compete beyond Key West.
Awarding college scholarships to graduating senior athletes who exemplify strong character and dedication.
Looking ahead, expanding access through free or low-cost sports clinics, camps, and educational opportunities as funding allows.

We’re just getting started.
This was the first full year our board carried this mission forward after the loss of our founder, Dexter Butler. We are incredibly proud of what we accomplished together — and even more excited about what’s ahead. These numbers represent the beginning of a much bigger vision to support even more kids in our community.

The Problem We Exist to Solve
Across the country, the rising cost of youth sports is preventing too many kids from participating — and in Key West, those barriers are even greater.
Nationally:
Nearly half of families struggle to afford youth sports costs.
The average family spends over $1,000 per child per year on organized sports.
Kids from lower-income families are significantly more likely to quit sports due to cost.
Youth sports participation continues to decline as costs rise.
Locally, those challenges are amplified:
The cost of living in the Florida Keys is already much higher than the national average.
Most tournaments and competitive opportunities are 3–4 hours away.
Families often face expenses for gas, meals, and one or more nights in a hotel.
The result is that talented, motivated kids are sometimes forced to sit out — not because of ability or commitment, but because of affordability and geography.
How Your Gift Helps
The cost of youth sports adds up quickly — even for families who are deeply committed to their kids’ participation.
In our community, registration fees alone average around $140 per sport, just to get a child on the roster. That cost does not include equipment like cleats, bats, gloves, uniforms, socks, or other sport-specific gear. For athletes who are excelling and earning opportunities beyond Key West, families often face additional expenses for travel, meals, and overnight lodging.
Nationally, families now spend nearly $1,000 per child per year on their primary sport, and in a geographically isolated community like ours, those costs can be even higher.
Your support helps ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of opportunity — and that kids can focus on playing, growing, and learning, not what their families can afford.
