About Us

At our core, we believe that sports should be for everyone — regardless of ability to pay. This organization exists to ensure that local kids have access to the opportunities, confidence, and character-building experiences that youth sports provide.

By removing financial barriers to participation, we help kids get on the field, stay in the game, and pursue their future — no matter their family’s circumstances.

Our Founder

This organization was founded by Dexter Butler — a beloved teacher, coach, mentor, and community leader who dedicated his life to youth, education, and sports.

As a history teacher and coach, Dexter believed deeply in the power of sports to shape character, build confidence, and create opportunity. He showed up for kids consistently — in the classroom, on the field, and behind the scenes — always with humility, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to helping young people reach their full potential.

Dexter didn’t just talk about community — he lived it. This organization was born from that belief.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

After Dexter’s passing, his long-time partner and the mother of his young daughter, Maria, made the courageous decision to carry forward the mission he started.

With the support of a dedicated board, Maria continues Dexter’s vision with care, integrity, and heart — ensuring that his commitment to kids, sports, and community lives on through meaningful action. Together, they have transformed loss into purpose and built a foundation for long-term impact.

This work is done not only in Dexter’s memory, but in his spirit — grounded in service, compassion, and belief in what’s possible for our kids.

Our Board

Our board is made up of local community members — many of them former athletes — who understand firsthand the role sports play in shaping lives.

They volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to:

  • Support youth sports access

  • Raise funds through community events

  • Build sustainable programs for the future

  • Ensure resources go where they’re needed most

Each board member is deeply connected to this community and united by a shared belief: when kids have the chance to play, everyone benefits.

Maria Castillo

Meet Maria. A proud Nicaraguan-American raised in Key West, she is mother of a busy toddler and the widow of the OG founder Dexter Butler, whose legacy inspires her every day. She pours her energy into carrying that vision forward. When she’s not dreaming up the next impactful charity event she recharges through soul-centered movement - jogging at sunset, flowing through yoga, or embracing a quiet moment of simply being present (Sunday Bunch!)

President

Samantha Sanchez

Meet Samantha. Born and raised in Key West, she lives a true island life. When she is not clocked in as one of the LOUDEST badass Moms at both her daughter’s softball games, she admires the different hues of the sunrise and sunset from her balcony every chance she gets. To be the best version of herself, she recharges her batteries by taking a boat ride to the sandbars.

Board Member

Evan Schaffer

Board Member

Meet Evan. Originally from Houston, Texas, he spent eight years working with professional sports teams around the country before making Key West his home in 2015. He enjoys perfecting his meat-smoking skills and unwinds through travel.

Board Member

Jamie Mattingly

Meet Jamie. A former Lady Conch turned coach, entrepreneur, and community builder, she’s been part of the Key West sports scene for decades. Today she’s coaching, cheering (loudly), and raising two sports-loving daughters. Off the field, she’s happiest gathering friends and family — beach days, boat rides, pickleball, or a backyard cookout. For her, it’s always been about teamwork, connection, and community.

Why We Do This

Youth sports are about more than games or seasons — they’re about:

  • Belonging

  • Discipline

  • Confidence

  • Teamwork

  • Opportunity

For many of us, sports were formative experiences that kept us grounded, connected, and striving toward something bigger. This organization exists to make sure today’s kids have that same chance — and that no child is left on the sidelines because of cost.

This is for the kids. Always.
